The Mahogany Brownie Mud Pie snare drum is perfect for players looking for enhanced thickness, richness and an abundance of smooth earthy resonance. Inspired by snares from the 1930s and 1940s, this 100% mahogany shell with mahogany reinforcing rings is especially suited for blues and jazz. Mahogany's increased mid range frequencies produces extra fat overtones - providing players with a warm and organic tonal experience.

Mahogany reinforcing rings are installed with minimal pressure, allowing the mahogany shell to breathe and simultaneously balance the overtones and resonance. A 45-degree inner bearing edge is cut and complimented with a more significant round-over outer edge, while the bearing edge apex is slightly flattened compared to other models. These combination of features are essential in achieving the sound and feel of iconic vintage snare drums.

*Finish choices for our mahogany and bubinga shells are: natural oil & wax, natural with high gloss polyurethane or metal flake with epoxy. We do not color dye these wood species.

Each snare is designed with a specific formula of wood species, shell thickness and Brownie signature reinforcing rings that produce magical tonality and playability. Perfectly contoured bearing edges and proprietary snare bed design are two key features that distinguish Brownie snare drums from all others. Exceptional sound quality in combination with our mouth-watering finishes makes owning a Brownie snare an absolute necessity.

Metal Flake

Our exclusive metal flake finishes created at Brownie Drum Company are absolutely like no other. This proprietary process of combining real metal flake with epoxy resin produces a result with incredible luster and superior durability. These dazzling finishes dance and flow as if they are alive! We use an industry standard 2-part coating resin that is extremely durable and crystal clear. The resin cures with a strength that makes our metal flake finishes the most durable and impact resistant drum finish on the market. All of the great Brownie tonal qualities are preserved due to the resin's elasticity and elongation properties. Our metal flake finishes breath and flex with each hit of the drum, and will never crack and become brittle over time. Brownie metal flake finishes are 'forever finishes.'

Developed over a 5 year process and using metal flake sourced from North Dakota, we were able to encapsulate flake with epoxy resin to create a fabulously dynamic drum finish. Each flake color choice or combination of colors have a 'retro' feel that are both captivating and elegant. 
If your goal is to shimmer and shine on stage and to turn heads, then Brownie Drum Co. metal flake finishes have heads on a swivel. 

Wood Dye

natural wood dye drum finishHigh quality liquid and powder wood dye concentrates are used to create just about any wood color imaginable. Whether light browns and olive greens to bolder dark walnut and ebony, each dye color ultimately delivers a classy and timeless finished product. Unlike common wood stains, these metallized acid dyes penetrate deep into the wood fibers and cells; revealing all of the wood's natural characteristics, grain pattern and dimensions. Our wood dye finishes are clear-coated with high gloss polyurethane until a perfectly smooth and incredibly reflective finish is achieved. Although polyurethane is not as scratch and impact resistant when compared to epoxy, polyurethane is a very durable and long lasting protective finish for drum shells.

Oil & Wax

Let the natural beauty of your premium wood shells shine with our oil and wax finish. We use several penetrating oils, such as orange oil and tung oil, to absorb deep within the wood's grain. Beeswax and carnauba waxes are then buffed onto the surface to shield the wood from the elements. This process conditions and protects the shells from drying out, deteriorating and mold/mildew prevention. Our oil and wax finishes have a rustic and natural matte to satin appearance, and is a wonderful choice for those wanting an organic and classic look.
