Masterful shell cutting and sleeve installation allows the floor tom and kick drum to separate and rejoin with exceptional precision. With our design, the shell’s tone and resonance are preserved – as if the shells were never cut in two. Penn-Elcom’s steel surface latches provide reliable and consistent latching that will never rattle.

Seriously Lightweight

Each and every ounce of weight was considered when designing Brownie Nesting Drums. Without minimizing overall weight, nesting drums can quickly become unmanageable and defeat the primary goal of easy transport. Lightweight and durable aircraft aluminum is used for certain hardware, such as the lugs and rack tom suspension mount. Our drum shells are also very light - drastically reducing overall weight.

Unlike many portable kits that suffer from thin tones and questionable construction, these meticulously handcrafted instruments are engineered specifically to preserve natural shell dynamics, depth, and projection.

Designed with Nordic's 6ply shells, these drums naturally deliver vibrant highs, a smooth midrange, and a clean, robust low-end.

Every shell goes through a specialized build process where reinforcing rings are installed under precise pressures, literally EQing each shell. This process dials in a highly focused fundamental pitch, softens unruly overtones and creates a perfectly balanced shell tone.

An internal alignment sleeve is installed and tightly seals the two shell halves. This acts as a resonant bridge, allowing kinetic energy and sound waves to pass effortlessly through both halves so the entire drum resonates as a single unit.

The combination of low-mass shells & hardware, precise construction and perfectly contoured bearing edges results in a completely free vibrating shell with depth, sustain and purity.
