Finish Choices
We offer two primary finishes at Brownie Drum Co.- our aniline wood dyes with polyurethane and our proprietary metal flake with epoxy. Dye and Flake color options and detailed information about our finishes can be found by visiting the Drum Finishes Page.
The Process
The bottom line, refinishing drums is a delicate and difficult process. Although challenging and labor intensive, we are proud to offer refinishing services to players around the world. After decades of restoring vintage drums, building custom drums and mastering & developing proprietary drum finishes; we are pleased to make your drums shine like they never have before.
Prepping your shells for a new finish is the most important step. The shell surface must be stripped of the current finish and suitable to begin the new finish. Shells that have drum wrap require extra love and attention, due to the wrap and contact adhesive removal process.
Once your shells are prepped and the new finish is complete, all bearing edges are smoothed (or recut if necessary) and every piece of hardware is treated & polished prior to reassembly. We examine every square inch of your shells and make any necessary repairs, such as, delaminating wood ply or separating reinforcing rings. Our refinishing process is truly the full royal treatment.
